COURSE OVERVIEW

A Bachelor of Petroleum Engineering (BEng or BE in Petroleum Engineering) is an undergraduate degree program that focuses on providing students with the necessary knowledge and skills to explore, extract, and produce oil and gas resources from the Earth’s subsurface. Petroleum engineering is a specialized field of engineering that plays a crucial role in the oil and gas industry, from the discovery of hydrocarbon reserves to the optimization of production processes.

After completing a Bachelor of Petroleum Engineering, graduates can pursue various career paths in the oil and gas industry. They may work as petroleum engineers, drilling engineers, reservoir engineers, production engineers, or research and development specialists in oil and gas companies, consulting firms, or government agencies related to the energy sector.

Moreover, some graduates may choose to further their education by pursuing a Master’s or Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering or related fields to advance their expertise and career prospects or to pursue research and academic positions.

All applicants are required to have Mathematics: Methods ATAR, with equivalents considered, and Physics ATAR or Engineering Studies ATAR, with equivalents considered. It is desirable that all applicants have Mathematics: Specialist ATAR, with equivalents considered.

All applicants must meet the academic admission requirements for this course. The indicative or guaranteed ATAR is as published (where applicable) or academic admission requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

  1. AQF Diploma or equivalent
  2.  Successfully completed 0.5 EFTSL of study at bachelor level or higher at an Australian higher education provider (or equivalent);
  3.  Special Tertiary Admissions Test;*
  4. University Preparation Course;
  5. Indigenous University Orientation Course
  6. Aboriginal University Readiness Assessment.*
